Vein Removal
Unsightly veins are caused by a number of reasons, including pregnancy, weight gain, standing on your feet for long periods of time, and even genetics. Some people experience small feathery capillaries, or spider veins, on their faces or legs while others have larger veins known as reticular or varicose veins. Spider veins may be unattractive, but they are generally considered harmless. Reticular or varicose veins, however, may be associated with certain medical concerns such as poor circulation or clotting.
In the good old days, there were very limited options for those suffering from spider veins or bulging varicose veins. Spider veins were typically treated with sclerotherapy, a procedure that is very effective and still used today. Varicose or reticular veins, though, were treated by surgically "stripping" them from the body. Luckily today, there are much less invasive and highly successful methods of treating all types of veins. At Physicians Skin Institute, we use the very latest in state of the art laser equipment to achieve the best possible results in vein removal.
Some commonly asked questions
How does laser vein removal work?
Laser removal of spider and small varicose veins involves laser application to the vein that is to be removed, delivering a series of light pulses to that vein. The laser's light causes the blood in the vein to gently heat up, which in turn forces the vein to collapse. The body will then absorb the collapsed vein as part of its natural healing process.
What can I expect during laser vein removal treatment?
The procedure takes only a few minutes, depending on the number of areas to be treated. It is generally pain-free, however, there are some clients who are more sensitive than others.
I have spider veins, and also a few larger visible veins. Should I use sclerotherapy or laser vein removal?
Oftentimes, clients with spider veins have larger visible veins as well. Please talk to one of our licensed aestheticians/certified laser technicians. He or she will be able to determine which procedure is right for you. Laser vein therapy may be used alone, or in conjunction with sclerotherapy.
How long will the results last?
Laser vein removal is a highly effective treatment used to significantly reduce the appearance of existing veins. Please keep in mind, however, that it is not a preventative treatment and will not inhibit the formation of new veins.
Is the treatment completely safe?
Yes. Laser vein removal is FDA approved. It is a safe and effective way to remove unsightly spider and varicose veins.
