Rosacea Treatment
Rosacea is commonly defined as a skin condition that is characterized by redness and broken blood vessels, and may be accompanied by acne. But did you know that more than 16 million Americans suffer from rosacea? This condition plagues nearly as many people as acne, and it needn't be this way. Although there is no known cure for rosacea, there are some extremely effective and safe ways of controlling its symptoms.
There are a number of medical theories regarding the underlying causes of rosacea. Two of the most popular theories involve the central nervous system, which explains why rosacea seems to worsen during times of stress. The first theory attributes the symptoms to a vascular disorder, due to common appearance of flushed, red skin and visible blood vessels. The second theory suggests that rosacea is caused by increased blood flow to the face, which in turn causes a simultaneous increase in tissue fluid. The tissue fluid accumulates faster than the body's lymphatic system can remove it. Still another theory contends that rosacea is caused by the overpresence of a tiny mite which exists in all human skin called Demodex folliculorum.
While many rosacea patients complain of flushed skin, a dry or rough texture to the skin (especially in the affected areas), small white pustules and broken capillaries, still others find that rosacea distresses even their eyes, making them watery and bloodshot. Rosacea may appear on the face, hands, neck and arms. Left untreated, these symptoms can lead to more serious conditions. It is important to see a dermatologist if are suffering from the symptoms of rosacea.
So, while the medical community is busy working on a common theory regarding the causes and cure of rosacea, you would probably like to know-is there anything that can be done to help minimize its embarrassing appearance? Luckily, there is help.
